Pharma scrips witness hectic activity

The Bombay Stock Exchange on the first trading day of the week (Monday 18) opened at 3,611 and closed at 3633.93. The sensex witnessed hectic activity due to expectation of a reform-oriented budget. On Friday sustained institutional buying of select pharma stocks helped them to gain further ground. On Friday 22, the sensex opened at 3566 and closed at 3604.08, registering a gain of 34 points against Thursday’s close of 3570.46 but losing 30 points against Monday’s close.

Some of the major gainers were: Abbott Labs 200.60(200); Alembic 95.20 (87.80); Cipla 1061.40 (1051.55); Dabur 62.75 (62.70); Dr Reddy’s 994.95 (980.55); E-Merck 311.25 (311.10); Knoll Pharma 290.95 (281.10); Nicholas Piramal 241.80 (243.65); Parke Davis 170.40 (169.25); P&G 504.40 (500.35); Pfizer 447.45 (462.15); Ranbaxy 841.80 (824.65); Smithkline 403 (401.50); Sun Pharma 645.40 (629.10); Wockhardt 542.50 (491.50); Zandu 1995.30 (1901.60).

The major losers were: Ajanta 55 (57.50); Aurobindo 237 (237.85); Aventis 347.50 (356.90); Burroughs Well. 194.85 (208.50); Cadila 124.05 (125.70); Elder 31.10 (33); German Remedies 268.20 (275.90); Morepen 59.80 (61.65); Panacea Bio 374 (385.75).
