CSSI unveils Foreign Pharmacist Development Programme for Indian pharmacists
Balakrishnan Nair - Mumbai

Concept Software & Services Inc (CSSI) USA has launched a major new Foreign Pharmacist Development Programme (FPDP) whereby B Pharms from India can qualify themselves to become certified pharmacists in USA. The new programme, FPDP provides a comprehensive, pre-packaged training to B Pharm students, students appearing for FPGEE (Foreign Pharmacist Graduate Equivalency Examination) and prepares him to work as certified pharmacists in the US.

The FPDP, conceived by Makarand Bhave, vice-president (global operations), Concept USA, uses the industry’s best practices, state-of-the-art technology and consulting services to address the complex demands involved in the recruitment of effective pharmacists for the pharmaceutical industry.

‘‘All B Pharm candidates and those having pharmacist licence will qualify for the programme. He should have a minimum of 16 years in education and the candidates should be from recognised universities, ’’ said Makarand Bhave. The first batch of the training programme comprising 25 students for a period of 45 days, is expected to begin in Mumbai. ‘‘In FPDP we are offering a programme where the students are taught by the best in the industry and are prepared very systematically. Usually students do not know what to do after FPGEE and FPDP takes care of the whole matter and a job as a pharma assistant,’’ he added.

The FPDP course contents shall cover a wide range of subjects including: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, general sciences including biology, pathogenic microbiology, immunology, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical/clinical sciences, economic, social and administrative sciences

‘‘The faculty of the programme includes qualified M.Pharms who are experienced in this course. This is the first batch but we have already spoken to companies there and see that our candidates are being recruited,’’ averred Bhave.

‘‘Earlier, B Pharms had to wait for at least eight months before they received their Authorisation to Test. This programme has made the whole process very simple and formatted,’’ he added.

Concept Software & Services Inc USA is a leading provider of information-based consulting, integration and IT outsourcing services for healthcare, pharmaceutical and other life sciences organizations in North America.

The company has entered the pharmaceutical sector recently. Its entry into the pharmaceutical segment shall benefit a large number of B Pharms who aim to build their career in USA as certified foreign pharmacists. Concept has been in touch with the pharma companies in USA and have all the details and the paperwork completed in this respect. It’s probably the first time that such a programme has been initiated in India that covers all the phases in such an orderly manner. It will benefit them in the long run as after returning back they will try and apply the same professional work culture in India thus improving the overall efficiency levels all around. This definitely is a good break for young B. Pharms wanting to make their career in USA.

Concept Micro-Systems Pvt. Ltd, the Indian arm of CSSI USA, has been involved in the IT as well as the pharma sector. Concept India will organize the activities for the FPDP here and will handle all preparations prior to their travel. Makarand Bhave, who has spent months in USA studying the patterns and movements of companies in this sector said, ‘‘It’s an area where people did not know how to proceed in an organized way and our facility in the long run will enhance the skills of pharmacists involved.’’

‘‘We are the pioneers in this area and we would like to create and maintain a lead in this all the way. Here we are in a position to get candidates to USA reducing the waiting period of eight months for ATT,’’ said Bhave.
