Sensex cautious due to political developments

The Bombay Stock Exchange on the first trading day (Monday 11) opened at 3675. The stocks sagged and fear of Ayodhya crisis to impact government stability had gripped investors and the sensex closed at 3603.97, down 53 points. On Friday 15, the sensex closed at 3617.68 with a marginal gain 14 points against Monday’s close.

Some of the major gainers were: Aventis 342.60 (342.20); Dr Reddy’s 1067.10 (1059.25); Knoll Pharma 301.75 (301.55); Morepen Labs 56.50 (54.25); Nicholas Piramal 271.65 (270.10); Novartis 241.15 (240.25); Parke Davis 170.80 (159.25); Pfizer 446 (439.35); Sun Pharma 652 (648.85); Wockhardt 527.35 (525.40); Zandu 1815 (1797)

The losers were: Aurobindo 231.20 (235.95); Burroughs Wellcome 189 (190.05); Cadila Healthcare 124.95 (125.65); Cipla 1014.95 (1021.35); E-Merck 294.80 (296.75); German Remedies 258 (256.30) GSK 355.40 (339.55); Ranbaxy 891.90 (853.90);
