Pharma stocks gain marginally on selective buying

The Bombay Stock Exchange on the first trading day (Monday 29) of the week opened on a positive note and closed on a marginally higher side after a volatile session at 3030.06. Down nearly 70 points at one point, the sensex gained 5.71 points during the day. On Friday 2, the sensex opened at 2690, touched an intra day high of 2992 and low of 2933 before closing at 2985, registering a gain of 9 points.

Some of the major gainers were: Burroughs Wellcome 223.10 (218.30); Cadila Healthcare 131.30 (130.85); Dr Reddy’s 881.90 (838.85) Glaxo 377.70 (358.40); Parke Davis 199.70 (195.70) Sun Pharma 552.30 (550); Wockhardt 469.30 (465.20)

The losers were: Abbott Labs 162(275); Aurobindo 212.30(212.35); Aventis 387.55(391.75); Cipla 932.35 (933.20); Dabur 47.75 (46.85); German Remedies 289.80(290); Merck 283.25 (285); Nicholas Piramal 243.70 (249.85); Novartis 249.75(255.95); Pfizer 460.30 (450.90); Procter & Gamble 427 (435.20); Ranbaxy 857.55 (910.45)
