plans generic augmentin launch in US next month
THE countrys largest drugmaker, Ranbaxy Laboratories,
has announced that the US market would soon have the generic version
of GlaxoSmithKlines blockbuster antibiotic Augmentin with
the company planning its launch in January next year.

to produce enzymes for cardio surgery in India
ONCE its biologicals plant commences, Biocon India is planning
to start manufacturing streptokinaze- enzymes used to break down
blood clots especially in cardio vascular related surgeries in India.
Merck
India to continue diagnostics biz
Though Merck KgaA plans to sell its diagnostics business to
fellow German firm DiaSys, its subsidiary Merck India has informed
the Bombay Stock Exchange that it will continue its diagnostic business
in India.
BIFR
directs IDBI to rebid for HAL
The Board for Industrial & Financial Reconstruction (BIFR)
has directed the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI), the
operating agency appointed by BIFR for the strategic sell off of
the pharma PSU, to rebid for Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd (HAL).

gets US & SA patents for 20 NCEs
J B Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited (JBCPL) has announced
a major breakthrough in its R&D activity with the US and South
African patent offices granting patents for all the 20 New Chemical
Entities (NCEs) invented by the companys R&D team in the
therapeutic category of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs).
