to set up biotech park at Bardhaman

THE
West Bengal government has identified biotechnology, an Instrument
of Promotion of Industries, Agriculture and Employment as a major
thrust area and an area for investment.
A
biotechnology park is going to be set up with trigonal participation
of the state government, investors and academia at large scale on
the 346 acres of land at Bardhaman seed farm, on Kalar Road at a
distance of 4kms from Bardhaman town in Bardhaman district of West
Bengal.
In
the first phase of initiation, the park will have modules on:

Tissue culture on plants like banana, arjun, lemon grass, ulatkamabal
etc

Floriculture
-
Biofertilizer
-
Bio-pesticide
-
Growth regulators
-
Industrial enzymes
-
Diagnostics
-
Vaccines
-
Dairying
-
Bioinformatics
-
Centre for Biotechnology Transfer
-
Centre for Business assistance
-
Centre for troubleshooting consultation and
-
Centre for marketing advice.
The
state government has issued a notification inviting proposals/ offers
for participation in the venture from
lead investors, tenant entrepreneurs in the fields of production,
land development, R&D and turnkey implementation etc and from
fringe investors.
A
senior official of the Department of Science & Technology, Government
of West Bengal on condition of anonymity said, We have
issued an advertisement in the leading newspapers of the country
inviting proposals from the private promoters to set up a state-of-the-art
biotechnology park at Bardhaman, conforming to the international
standards.
