NOVARTIS India formally launched its new immunosuppresant, myfortic
(mycophenolate sodium), used in combination with cyclosporine and
corticosteroids for prevention of acute transplant rejection in
the Rs 100 crore immunosupressants market.

GIVEN the potential of the diabetes molecule BLX 1002, the Chennai-based
pharma major, Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd and the
US-based Bexel Pharmaceuticals Inc (BPI), has planned to complete
phase I and phase II (a) human clinical studies before considering
licensing opportunities.

Following the positive response to the voluntary retirement scheme
(VRS) of Burroughs Wellcome (India) Ltd (BWIL), decks are now cleared
for a legal merger with GlaxoSmithKline Pharma-ceuticals.
Eli Lilly to launch
Cialis, Forteo in 2004
ELI Lilly is all set to take on Viagra in the domestic market with
Cialis, another drug in the erectile dysfunction category. Cialis
and osteoporosis drug Forteo are expected to hit the Indian market
in the first quarter of 2004.
DRL gets US FDA nod
for bulk facilities
THE Hyderabad based pharmaceutcal giant, Dr Reddys Laboratories
Ltd (DRL), has achieved yet another milestone in its operations,
with the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) successfully
completing inspection of the companys bulk actives facilities.
