EAN to launch EPC Global India to set standards in RFID technology
Indian exporters to USA will soon have to invest in electronic coding systems if they want to retain their export markets as the global retailer chains have started making it mandatory and regulatory agencies endorsing such technology. In view of this global trend EAN India is set to introduce RFID technology standard based on the global EPC global Network in the country.

Avesthagen, CCBR partner for osteo nutraceuticals
Avestha Gengraine Technologies Pvt Ltd, India’s leading biotechnology company has announced a strategic joint venture with the Denmark-based Centre for Clinical & Basic Research (CCBR) and its subsidiary Nordic Biosciences, informed a press release.

Novo terminates further clinical development of DRL’s Balaglitazone
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) has announced that Novo Nordisk has decided to terminate further clinical development of its partial PPAR (Peroxisome Proliferator Activated Receptor) gamma agonist Balaglitazone (DRF 2593), an oral treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes, according to a company press communique.

Zydus Cadila clarifies on plant certification
Ahmedabad-based Zydus Cadila has clarified that its Moraiya plant which is approved by UK’s MHRA, South Africa’s MCC and Philippines’ BFAD, follows WHO’s good manufacturing practices specifications in manufacturing and testing of products and is certified by the Gujarat Food and Drug Administration as WHO-compliant.

Serum Institute launches Rabivax
Serum Institute of India Limited, the largest manufacturer of vaccines in India as also the world leader in measles and DTP (diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis) vaccines, announced the launch of its unique rabies vaccine, at a press conference here.

Aurobindo gets US FDA approval for mirtazapine ANDA
City-based Aurobindo Pharma has received the US FDA approval for its Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for mirtazapine tablets 7.5 mg, 15 mg, 30 mg and 45 mg. mirtazapine tablets are indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorders.

Suven spends 14 per cent of income on R&D
The Hyderabad - based Suven Life Sciences recorded a growth of 16 per cent for the second quarter ending September ’04 at Rs 1544.06 lakhs as compared to Rs 1323.62 lakhs for the corresponding period of the previous year, said a press release.

Alembic Q2 net escalates 213 per cent
The Rs 600-crore Ahmedabad-based drug company Alembic Ltd in the second quarter ended September 2004 clocked net profit of Rs 19.65 crore from Rs 6.28 crore in the corresponding period of last year registering a growth of 213 per cent.
