The President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, inaugurated Sun Pharma
Advanced Research Centre (SPARC) at Thandalja near Vadodara. The
new facility, which is dedicated to new drug discovery and drug
innovation and development process, is one of the largest private
sector pharma research centers in the country.

The UK based CRO Chiltern International has forayed the Indian market
by opening a new office in Mumbai, announced a press release. According
to the business plan, the Indian office will help support global
and local pharmaceutical companies with their drug development objectives

Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited (RLL) has signed an agreement with
Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd for supply and distribution of

Hygiene may hike product prices
Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Healthcare Ltd is looking at the
prospect of increasing prices on account of rising input costs.
We are evaluating the possibility of hiking prices,
said company chairman Bharat Patel on the sidelines of the Third
National FMCG Conclave organised by the Confederation of Indian
Industry held in Mumbai.

The Asian Regional Workshop on the WTO TRIPs Agreement and Access
to Medicines: Appropriate National Policy Responses was held in
Kuala Lumpur on 28-30 November 2004 was co-organised by the Third
World Network and Health Action International (Asia Pacific) with
the cooperation of UNDP, WHO, Medicine Sans Frontier and Consumer
Project on Technology, informed a press release.
