Cleaning validation, an evolving topic

Sonal Shukla

Validation of cleaning processes is a hot topic of discussion in Pharma vicinity these days, especially with rising number of Indian manufacturing units going for USFDA and MHRA approvals. The three-day workshop on cleaning validation was pivotal in bringing out the cleaning validation related issues and providing the practical training to solve them.

“Cleaning validation is an evolving topic. With FDA putting emphasis on PAT and risk assessment, companies are now also looking at how to bring these ideas together,” said Destin Leblanc, professional consultant, specialised in pharmaceutical and medical device cleaning validation. He pointed out that the issue in the Pharma industry is that, in many cases, the same equipment may be used for processing different products. To avoid contamination of the following product, adequate cleaning procedures are essential.

Key personnel from companies like Glenmark, Lupin, Serum Institute, Nicholas Piramal, Johnson &Johnson attended the conference. H K Bhatt, Assistant General Manager, QA Torrent Pharmaceutical, opined that not only in cleaning validation, but in cases of all GMP norms and GMP practices, there is a need for proper training.
