Synokem Pharmaceuticals growing at a fast pace
Synokem
Pharmaceuticals, established in 1982 is a fast growing pharmaceutical company,
which has grown from strength to strength and diversified its activities. "We
are the pioneers in manufacturing and marketing combinations like Beta-Cobal,
Alfa-Beta, Chlozep, Tensyn-AZ, Exiten, etc in the country", claims JM Arora,
managing director, Synokem.
The company has had a modest beginning when it was started off with just Rs
1 lac. Today Synokem boasts of a turnover of Rs 15 crore and aims to be amongst
top 100 oharma companies in India by 2010. Also, by 2008, the ambition is to
get a turnover of Rs 50 crores. Currently, Synokem is doing contract manufacturing
for companies like Cadilla and for 40 other companies from Karnataka, Tamil
Nadu etc.
The story of Synokem is not only interesting but inspiring too. The man responsible
for the considerable growth JM Arora was horticulture lecturer in Khalsa college
Amritsar's Botany department. He quit the job and joined the pharma industry.
Initially, he worked with a German company and then moved on to work with the
Boots company. For about 15 years Arora was involved with the pharma industry
and in 1981 thought of starting his own venture. He says, "I was ambitious
and wanted to do something extraordinary on my own". And he set up Synokem.
The company has three divisions namely: Pharma Division, Generics Division and
Mekonys Division. Mekonys is a new division, which would be dealing with specialty
products like innovative drugs. Known for producing psychotropic drugs, Synokem
is gradually foraying into antibiotics, neurological drugs etc., informs Arora.
Barring Gujarat and Maharasthra, the Synokem products are available in every
state. Now, the company is on an expansion spree and part of this expansion
is a brand new ultra modern plant at Haridwar in Uttaranchal adhering to norms
of WHO GMP with its own R&D department having highly qualified and experienced
team of professionals.
With the commissioning of this manufacturing unit in the Tax Holiday Zone of
Haridwar, Uttranchal, Arora plans to double the company's sales in shortest
possible time.
Synokem
has a team of dedicated field-force and managers at every level to help and
assist the daily activities of field force. In all there are 125 medical representatives
and managers in field. And there are 100 workers in factories.
"We will increase the workforce with expansion",
informs Arora and adds that plans are afoot to start prodcution of ointment
and injectibles. Presently, the forte of Synokem is capsules. Also, keeping
in view the changing needs at Global Scenario, the company is working out to
have foreign collaborations.
The management of Synokem consists of healthy
mix of veterans and youngsters who are steering the company to the
new heights of success. Abhinav Arora, is the youngest director,
who is presently pursuing an MBA degree from SP Jain Institute of
Management, Mumbai after graduating from Business Studies from Amity
School of Business.
According to Arora, Abhinav will gradually takeover
the reins of management and administration of the company. He is
young and energetic and has a vision. He has planned to sign a long
term MOU with many top multinational pharmaceutical companies for
third party manufacturing and is also planning to have joint ventures/collaborations
with foreign companies, says JM Arora.
