Alkem Laboratories won the award for Brand Management.
Umesh Sharma, GM, Marketing and A K Sharma, GM, Sales of Alkem accepted the
award from Shri Ram Vilas Paswan, Honourable Minister of Chemical and Fertiliser
and Steel. Samprada Singh, Chairman of Alkem Laboratories said, It is
a great privilege to receive the coveted Express Pharma Excellence Award. This
is a widely respected award and we feel delighted to receive the same.
Alkem Laboratories, which is known for its alliance with
Israel-based Taro Pharma, and for manufacturing sucralose, is also known for
its blockbuster brands: Taxim, Taxim-O, Sumo and Alcipro. Alkem's products are
widely prescribed by medical professionals in India. Taxim (Cefotaxime) has
been Alkem's No.1 brand for a decade, generating sales worth Rs 83.88 crore
in 2004-05 alone.

The short listed contenders for
the awards were Janssen-Cilag, Novartis India and Pfizer
Janssen-Cilag markets a variety of prescription
and OTC products in various therapeutic segments, like gastroenterology,
fungal infections, womens health, oncology, nephrology, mental health,
neurology, and pain relief. Four of Janssen-Cilag drugs are included in
the World Health Organizations Essential Drug list, which is an
industry record. Stugeron is their star brand that generated revenues
worth Rs 22.5 crore in 2005. Their mantra is quality, not quantity.
Novartis India stands tall with a success
story of Voveran, which is their No. 1 brand in the Indian Pharma market.
Voveran garnered Rs 107 crore of revenue in FY 2004-05, with a market
share of 14 percent. Novel marketing strategies, have made this brand
a leader in its category. Their brands in the CNS and gynaecology category,
like the Epitril, Tegrital and Methergin and Syntocinon hold a position
of authority and are synonymous with quality and reliability.
Pfizer has a total of 40 brands in the market,
with 25 brands generating revenues of more than Rs 5 crore. Corex is the
companys star performer, generating revenues up to Rs 96 crore in
FY 2004-05. The companys top 10 brands include Corex, Becosules,
Magnex, Dolonex, Gelusil, Minipress XL, Benadryl and CF, which contribute
to 53 percent of the total sales generated by the company.
