Torrent Pharma launches Nexpro Fast

Our News Bureau - Mumbai

Torrent Pharma has launched Nexpro Fast, a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI), for the first time in India to treat peptic ulcers and Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). It is said that the clinical action of Nexpro Fast is faster and longer lasting than the existing drugs in this category.

Nexpro Fast is a next generation therapy that reaches the site of action fast and neutralises the acid in the stomach within 60 seconds as compared to the older generation PPIs like omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole and rabeprazole that take 45 minutes to two hours, thus giving immediate relief. Further, Nexpro Fast's advantage lies in the fact that a major part of it is absorbed through the stomach, which inhibits the activity of parietal cells faster. This ensures that no new acid is produced in the stomach. Nexpro Fast also gives 24-hour acid control because of longer availability of the drug in the body.

According to Sujesh Vasudevan, VP-Marketing, Torrent Pharma, "Nexpro Fast is truly fast and a better alternative for GERD and peptic ulcers. We expect it to be among the top five brands in the PPI market, touching sales of over Rs 11 crore within one year of its launch."

The PPI market is worth Rs 390 crore, of which the esomeprazole market accounts for Rs 27 crore. Torrent is already an established player in the PPI market with products like Nexpro and Veloz in the plain PPI market and Domstal O, Domstal RD, Nexpro RD, Veloz D and Veloz M in the PPI combination market.
