Lakeshore
conducts liver transplant
Japanese patient Etsoku Kobayashi recently underwent a living
donor liver transplantation (LDLT) at Kochi-based Lakeshore
Hospital. Kobayashi was suffering from a severe case of primary
biliary cirrhosis. The 15-hour-long surgery was conducted
by Dr H Ramesh, Director, Transplantation Programme, along
with a team of six anaesthetists and critical care surgeons
and haepatologists.
Thyrocare
will amplify 10 times in five years
Founded in 1996, Thyrocare Technologies, Indias largest
thyroid testing laboratory, has clocked an annual growth rate
of 30-40 per cent. Conducting over 25,000 tests daily, its
services are now available via 565 franchisees, which enable
blood samples from remotest part of the country to reach the
centralised processing laboratory at Mumbai. Exerpts from

and Research Center at the University of Washington (UW) in
Seattle, US and Professor in the Department of Surgery (School
of Medicine) at UW is involved with research on injury control
activities, pre-hospital care and cost effective improvements
in hospital-based trauma care in a network of collaborators
in Ghana, Mexico, Vietnam and India. He also works on a broad
international initiative to improve the care of injured patients
globally in collaboration with the World Health Organisation
and the International Society of Surgery. In an interview
with Rita Dutta, Dr Mock describes his involvement in developing
cost-effective and low- resource EMS facilties in middle and
low income countries.
