Wyeth introduces Tygacil in India

Wyeth
has introduced Tygacil (tigecycline) in select cities in India following its
approval by the Drug Controller General of India. Tygacil is the first antibiotic
in a new class called glycylcyclines. It is indicated for use in complicated
infections of the skin and soft tissue and complicated intra-abdominal infections.
Tygacil has in-vitro activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria,
including multi-drug resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus
aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE).
Tygacil is available as an orange lyophilized powder or cake. Each Tygacil vial
contains 50 mg tigecycline lyophilized powder for intravenous infusion. The
product was first approved in US in July 2005 and it has been launched in 33
countries in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America as of May
2007.
