The foundation of Akums drugs and pharmaceuticals Limited was laid in the year 2004 in Haridwar, Uttaranchal as a contract manufacturing company. The company started its journey with its promoter directors who came along with a wide range of experience of over 30 years in manufacturing of pharmaceuticals. Though, a relatively young company in race Akums Pharma is endeavoring to make a name in the global pharmaceutical industry.

Akums Pharma in a short period of time has walked a long way and developed best of manufacturing facilities. The company is sprawled over an area of about 170000 square feet and has developed an independent state- of- the- art -manufacturing unit. The manufacturing plant is designed in compliance with international norms and standards and is well equipped with modern and sophisticated manufacturing facilities.

Product pipeline

The company boasts of a strong product pipeline. It manufactures more than 800 formulations in the form of tablets, capsules (routine & sustained release), soft gelatin, dry syrup & liquid preparations. Akums Pharma's manufacturing range includes antihypertensives, antibiotics, analgesics, anti-ulcerants, antidiarrhoeals, antitubercular, antifungal, antiprotozoals, antimalarial, antiallergics, antidiabeties, cough and cold preparations, vitamins, food preparations.

The company manufactures and supplies medicines to most of the top pharmaceutical companies of India on third party or loan license and P to P basis. Akums Pharma with its strong marketing and sales services in a short span of time have reached a stage where its products are available at almost each and every chemist in every nook & corner of the country. Constantly improving

The company has not only developed its manufacturing facilities but to keep up with the increasing competition, it has also developed in-house testing laboratories along with R&D center. The R&D center of the company is supported by highly qualified, technical and skilled personnel. The company asserts that it also has sufficient infrastructure to develop and obtain DCGI approval for new fixed dose combinations (F.D.Cs). Remarkably, the company in a very short span of time has also got approval from DCGI to manufacture and market a number of new F.D.Cs. According to company sources, some of these products are introduced for the first time in the country.

To aid its further growth plans, the company has also added two more manufacturing units as per US-FDA & UK-MHRA norms to manufacture wide range of injectables in the form of dry powder or liquid in both beta & Non-Beta Lactum sections, eye or ear drops in international FFS packs. Additionally, the company has developed excellent facilities to manufacture clavulanic acid and soft gelatin preparations.

Plans ahead

Akums pharma proposes to start pre-filled syringes in its injectable unit shortly as part of its expansion programs. However, while the company's quality products have already been well accepted in various countries wherever it has been exported directly or through its business associates, the company also has plans apart form contract manufacturing. Akums Pharma has ambitious plans to boost its overseas business in a big way from current financial year.
