Jocund: Marching Ahead

Jocund India was established in Haridwar as Uttarakhand was declared as excise free zone. The company is a brain child of Sudhir Gupta, a veteran in pharma industry having an impressive record since 1965. Interestingly, he spent more than 40 years of his career in manufacturing of pharmaceutical formulations.

The company since inception has been professionally managed. The management of Jocund India consists of a healthy mix of veterans and youngsters who are steering the company to new and greater heights of success. Sudhir Gupta is assisted by Saurabh Gupta, a management graduate with 15 years of experience in managing various functions of the pharma industry.

Being Innovative

The company has been constantly providing professional services to its clients and customers. The company has developed manufacturing facilities in 100 percent excise free zone at Haridwar with compliance to cGMP. "The plant is easily upgradeable to UKMHRA standards," says Sudhir Gupta.

Remarkably, the company has maintained its growth and expansion plans in the area. "In order to provide high quality products, we have set up ultramodern and futuristic facilities to produce various pharmaceutical formulations meeting high international standards, which surpass the present requirements of WHO," informs Sudhir Gupta. Hence, the company is fully equipped to meet the demand of export markets, in addition to its own demand and that of outsourcing companies.

Manufacturing

While the company understands the need to fulfill quality and customer satisfaction, its plant is designed to produce tablets, capsules and ointments. Incidentally, the plant has started its commercial production of tablets, capsules and ointments. The manufacturing plant of Jocund India has a capacity to produce 60 lakh tablets per shift per day, 10 lakh of capsules per shift per day and 30,000 ointment per shift per day. The plant also has all sophisticated machines and equipments with Beta-Lactum and Non-Beta Lactum facilities.

The company has also designed the plant with water management facility. "Water is planned as input with pretreatment consisting of sand filter, chlorine mixer, activated carbon filter," says Sudhir Gupta.

Besides, the plant also has separate air handling units for different areas where product is exposed with 20 to 25 air changes and minimum pressure differential of 15 pascals. The plant is also based in a favorable location in Haridwar enabling a good connectivity with Delhi and Dehradoon.

Quality

Jocund India believes in achieving success through higher levels of quality products and services to its clients and customers. To ensure the same, the company has developed a well equipped and sophisticated quality department. To maintain the transparency in quality of medicines, the company has divided the quality department into two separate departments- its own quality assurance department and a separate quality control department. To enable the monitoring of quality of products the company has also developed in-house testing facilities. "The plant is equipped with HPLC, UV, and spectrophotometer and microbiology laboratory with highly qualified professionals. We have our own well equipped laboratory with physiochemical, instrumentation and microbiological facilities," informs Sudhir Gupta.

Keep going

The company looks forward to a healthier and happier future. Keeping this in mind, the company aims to grow consistently through the years and gain trust and confidence of its customers. It has set bigger targets to achieve. "Jocund has set up a target of achieving a turnover of one hundred crores during 2007-08," says Sudhir Gupta.

While the company is mainly focused on loan licensing and P to P for large volume pharma companies, due to recent changes in excise duty and taxes it also feels that there is a lot of scope for outsourcing and has plans to forge into it. "Jocund already has a marketing set up to cater the needs of national and export customers by virtue of group operation from last four decades. Company has interest in taking up contract manufacturing, third party manufacturing , loan license, marketed by arrangements for large volume reputed companies," informs Gupta.
