Sanofi-Aventis receives FDA nod for Taxotere

Mumbai

Sanofi-Aventis announced that the FDA has approved Taxotere injection concentrate in combination with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil for induction therapy of locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck before patients undergoing chemo radiotherapy and surgery.

In another development Barr Pharmaceuticals said that its Barr Laboratories unit has challenged the patents listed by Sanofi-Aventis US LLC on uroxatral, its treatment for enlargement of the prostate. Barr had received US regulatory nod in June for filing a generic version of the drug and the company had notified the patent holder, it said in a statement. On 21st September Sanofi-Aventis had filed a patent suit in a US federal court to prevent Barr from proceeding with the marketing of the product.
