Sanofi-Aventis receives FDA nod for Taxotere

Sanofi-Aventis
announced that the FDA has approved Taxotere injection concentrate in combination
with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil for induction therapy of locally advanced
squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck before patients undergoing chemo
radiotherapy and surgery.
In another development Barr Pharmaceuticals said that its Barr Laboratories
unit has challenged the patents listed by Sanofi-Aventis US LLC on uroxatral,
its treatment for enlargement of the prostate. Barr had received US regulatory
nod in June for filing a generic version of the drug and the company had notified
the patent holder, it said in a statement. On 21st September Sanofi-Aventis
had filed a patent suit in a US federal court to prevent Barr from proceeding
with the marketing of the product.
