Parker Robinson—A name in skin care

Skin constitutes the largest area of the human body and skin diseases are most prevalent in tropical countries where temperature, humidity and rainfall, along with socio-economic conditions of the people are the real cause of this discomfort. Keeping all these factors in mind, Kolkata's Parker Robinson, a GMP complaint company founded in the early eighties, started its venture. With a steady growth, it is one of the frontrunners in the industry today. It has a wide range of dermatological preparations covering almost every skin ailment. The company claims to be the first in the Eastern zone to launch dermatological products. To meet increasing demand, the company upgraded its facilities, discarding small and old machines, and changed vats, which were replaced by bigger machines of appropriate sizes.

Parker Robinson partnered with the School of Tropical Medicine, a pioneer institute in South East Asia, to introduce some of the leading dermatological products in the country. Some examples are—Urea cream and lotion, Scabiped cream and lotion, Psoratar ointment, Supragent cream and lotion, Conzole-M cream and lotion. At present, the company produces a wide range of derma formulations to meet increasing market demand. Some are covered under the Indian Pharmacopoeia together with that of the United States and British Pharmacopoeia. Parker Robinson has set up a modern manufacturing unit in Kolkata, West Bengal, managed by a group of experts, dedicated hard-working professionals to maintain quality of products.

The company already produces some oral medicines at its modern WHO-GMP compliant production facility in the excise free zone of Roorkee besides its Hyderabad facility. The sole aim of the company is stability consideration, from the physical, chemical, microbiological and packaging point of view. Another aim is to try to locate and identify "degradation pathways" in the company's external and oral preparation. The present aim is to manufacture a new "penetration enhancer" without toxicity to facilitate greater absorption. The company is looking at introducing new formulations and sophisticated chemical compounds like Mometasone, Halobetasol and Terbinafine.
