Our News Bureau - Mumbai

Former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and Dr John L LaMattina, Senior Vice-President, Pfizer, and President, Pfizer Global Research and Development, inaugurated the Bilcare Centre of Excellence along with a unique product developed by Bilcare to combat the global crisis of counterfeiting, in Pune. The Global Research Centre of Excellence will have dedicated R&D sections for packaging research, material research, analytical research, drug sensitivity studies and package design.

For converting innovations into reality, the centre is also equipped with Asia's first integrated Flexo Printing machine and a state of the art pilot plant, which was inaugurated by Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India.

The new product—‘To counterfeit the counterfeit’— has been launched to help pharmaceutical industries in securing their brand, increasing every product’s warranty, making it trackable and to secure supply management chain.

Speaking on the occasion, Mohan Bhandari, Chairman and Managing Director, Bilcare, said, "Bilcare is emerging fast as a knowledge company with unique research capabilities to address critical challenges of the global pharmaceutical industry. I am delighted that now we are in a position to offer complete solution on counterfeit and ensure a better healthcare for tomorrow."

Kalam also launched the 'Window to the World' project, which is an initiative of Bilcare Foundation for school children of the Pune region. This is a unique programme initiated by Bilcare so as to make children aware of the English language and to make them understand the importance of internet in today's computer savvy world.

This programme devised by the foundation for the age group of 14-17, would involve a fully equipped audio visual van with the latest AV devices, to educate children in an interactive way. These vans will go to all schools in Rajgurunagar on a regular basis to impart whole-some knowledge with assistance from school teachers and the foundation's volunteers. The teaching methodology will include interactive English, documentaries on science and technology, usage of internet etc.
