Thermo Fisher holds lab informatics symposium
Thermo Fisher Scientific held its annual data management
software user group meeting, Laboratory Informatics Symposium (LIS) on 14-15
February 2008. The symposium, held in Bangalore, was attended by more than 50
professionals from the scientific, bio analytical and pharmaceutical communities
and major growth industries in India. Dave Champagne, Vice President and General
Manager for Thermo Scientific Informatics business, said, "This event,
our first in India, helped us bring a new focus to our customers on how the
right informatics strategies and solutions can streamline data management processes
and help their laboratories become more efficient. When laboratories run more
efficiently, scientists are then able to focus on the science and not on the
administrative work usually required to produce reports and analyse data. Our
purpose-built laboratory information management systems help our customers to
gain more control over their lab processes and in the process, gain more time
and improve efficiencies."
Attendees represented a cross-section of laboratory functions including laboratory
scientists and managers, information technology managers, and operations executives.
In addition, the attendees came from each phase of the drug development and
delivery process, from research through to manufacturing, and represented pharmaceutical
companies, contract research organisations and bio analytical laboratories.
The symposium provided attendees the opportunity to meet and discuss issues
and trends concerning laboratory informatics, evolving technologies and changing
market requirements.
At a VIP meeting on the February 14, awards for innovation were given to Clinigene
International Glenmark Research Centre, Advinus Therapeuticals and Jubilant
Biosys. The programme also featured customer presentations by Dr Shrinivas Savale,
Clinigene International, and Dr Rajesh Karwa, Glenmark Research Centre, and
companies focused on working with the latest technologies to help their organisations
meet the growing demands of the life sciences industry.
