Dr Anantha Narayana receives IPA award
Dr Anantha Narayana, head, Herbals Research, Hindustan Lever Research Center
was recently honored with the Eminent Pharmacist Award by the Indian Pharmaceutical
Association (IPA). The annual award is given for consistent and outstanding
contribution to pharmaceutical sciences. Former recipients of this award include
the late Dr Pravinder Singh of Ranbaxy, late Ramanbhai Patel (founder of Cadila),
Prof Harkishan Singh and Dr PC Dandiya.
Dr Anantha Narayana is an M Pharm from Saugar University (MP) and holds a PhD
from Delhi University. He taught pharmacy for a decade, at Saugar University,
Hamdard College of Pharmacy, and College of Pharmacy, Delhi Administration (now
DIPAS). His industry experience includes long tenures in Ranbaxy Laboratories
and later Dabur Research Foundation. He is credited for having led research
at Dabur and later at HUL, and demonstrated the application of Reverse
Pharmacology approach for bringing out scientifically developed evidence
based medicines/products form the wisdom of ayurveda.
He is a member of Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission's Scientific Committee and
is Chairman of its Herbs and Herbal Products Committee, an Honorary Adjunct
Professor of Ayurvedic Pharmaceutics at Bhavan's SPARC, and was a member of
Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia Committee and ASU DTAB of Government of India as well
as a Convener of Herbal Cosmetics Committee of BIS. He was Convener of a subgroup
of the Dr Mashelkar Committee. He is an active member Managing Committee of
Ayurvedic Drug Manufacturer's Association (ADMA) and has contributed to development
of many policies related to ayurvedic products and their modernisation. He has
served on IPA, and was Secretary of IPCA, and is very active in the professional
field.
