Dr K V Surendra Nath to head USP-India
The
U S Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention has appointed Dr K V Surendra Nath as Vice
President-USP India. Nath originally joined USP-India as Laboratory Director
in January 2006. Since 2006, USP-India has provided its broad range of pharmacopeial
services to customers in India and the region. USP has developed extensive relationships
with the Indian pharmaceutical industry, regulatory bodies, the research community
and other stakeholders, which Nath will cultivate and extend. He will be responsible
for expanding USP's collaborative laboratory capabilities to support the development
of USP monographs and reference materials. Nath will also oversee the growth
of USP's scientific outreach and educational programmes about USP's compendia
of quality documentary standards (the United States Pharmacopeia-National Formulary
and the Food Chemicals Codex) and allied reference materials. In addition, he
will be responsible for the growth of USP's verification programmes in India,
which verify the identity, strength, purity and quality of pharmaceutical and
dietary supplement ingredients.
According to John Fowler, Chief Global Services Officer, USP, "Dr Surendra
Nath has been a key player in the success of USP in its first three years and
we are honoured that he has accepted his new role. His talents and expertise
will help us work together in the next phase of growth and development of the
facility and USP's presence in India."
Before joining USP, Nath was General Manager for quality assurance and quality
control at Matrix Laboratories, where he served for four years. Prior to that,
he was at Sri Ram Laboratories for seven years, and before that spent four years
at Vimta Labs. Nath holds a PhD in chemistry from the University of Roorkee
(IIT, Roorkee) as well as a master's degree in analytical chemistry and a bachelor's
degree (honours) in chemistry.
