FICCI to promote Indian clinical trials industry at 45th annual DIA meeting

An impetus for the industry, this is for the first time in the history that the Indian clinical trials industry sees Government support towards its promotion abroad. Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is taking quantum initiative for organising India focused activities in the upcoming 45th Annual DIA Meeting, which is scheduled from 21st -25th June 2009 at San Diego, US.

The objective is to highlight the progress made by the Indian clinical trials industry, the enabling role of the Indian Government and showcase the services offered by companies complying with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and best practices that exist in the clinical research arena.

A delegation of senior government officials and industry is expected to be led by Ashok Kumar Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, along with Devendra Chaudhary, Joint Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Debashish Panda, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dr T S Rao, Advisor, Department of Biotechnology and Dr Surinder Singh, Drugs Controller General (India).

On June 23, 2009 at San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina, FICCI is organising a roundtable discussion and networking dinner with participation from Governments (India and US) and Industry (India, US and other countries participating in the DIA) which will see discussions on ethical practices in India and capacity and capability building efforts.

Seeing India as preferred global destination for clinical trials, FICCI will also be organising India focussed session, ‘Global Clinical Trials - Destination India’ in the Regulatory Affairs Track of DIA annual conference on 24th June 2009. The session will highlight the enabling role of Indian Government with versatile speakers, which include, Ashok Kumar, Devendra Chaudhary, Debashish Panda, Dr Surinder Singh, Dr T S Rao, Dr Vasudeo Ginde, CEO, DiagnoSearch Life Sciences and V K Topa, Advisor to Secretary General, FICCI.

At the DIA exhibition, FICCI will also be organising 'Pavilion India', which is an Island of eight booths for Indian companies, the exhibiting companies are DiagnoSearch Life Sciences, GVK Biosciences, Synchron Research Services, Reliance Clinical Research Services, CliniRx Research, Tata Consultancy Services, IRL Research and Trident Life Sciences.

The DIA annual meeting is the biopharmaceutical industry's largest global, multidisciplinary event, which features the biggest names from industry, regulatory, and academia.

As an update on the Indian clinical trials environment, FICCI - E&Y knowledge paper would be unveiled at the DIA along with the Indian Industry directory for distribution in DIA.
