Microbes
An eternal source of innovative drugs
Refined fermentation process development strategies have geared
up microbes as a sustained source of future drugs. Dr H Sivaramkrishna,
President and Dr Girish Mahajan, Group Head, Anti-infective
Screening & Prokaryote Isolation, Department of Natural
Products, Piramal Life Sciences Limited (PLSL) illustrate
the pre-eminence fo microbes in the pharma industry focusing
on three prominent areas: anti-microbial (anti-bacterial and
anti-fungus), anti-cancer and anti-diabetic drugs.
